No Pain, No Gain

You will never regret working hard. This is a saying I live up to and strongly believe in. Ever since I was a young girl, I’ve been overweight and that made me feel insecure. I would constantly compare myself to other girls. People would always comment on my weight and tease me. This caused me to be unhappy with my appearance and it definitely lowered my self-esteem. In the year of 2013, when I reached the age of 14, I decided to make a huge change. I was sick of feeling tired and lethargic all the time. I wanted to get healthy and gain some confidence.

When I started this journey, I did the typical thing everyone would do, which was to eat less. It didn’t quite help me because I was always hungry and grumpy. I didn’t see any progress at all. Instead of this method, I just ate nutritious food and worked out regularly. I did this in the healthiest way possible. From trying out different kinds of exercises and teaching myself to become disciplined, I was able to lose 45 pounds of fat in a year. Fitness became a huge part of my life and my health has become one of my top priorities. It was a long and tiring journey but it was worth it. I had worked so hard to reach my goals and resist the urge to give up.

This whole experience of putting in so much effort and hard work made me appreciate my health. I learned how to never take it for granted because I only have one body and one life. I have to take care of it everyday so I can live longer and be more energetic. I also appreciate the independence I’ve gained. I did not need a trainer or a nutritionist to tell me what to do and motivate me. I lost all the weight on my own by convincing myself to always give my best and never give up when times get hard. Because I was able to accomplish this goal, I now believe that I can do anything and get through difficult times. I instilled a hard work ethic in myself and this not only affects my fitness, but it spreads throughout all parts of my life such as school. I did not only gain a healthier lifestyle, but I also gained strength and confidence. Today, my lifestyle is all about balance. I eat healthy, indulge every once in a while, and stay active. I now appreciate life more and this is the happiest I’ve ever been.
