High School is
a very important journey in a person’s life yet the hardest part of any
teenager’s life. This would be the time wherein your life turns into a
whirlwind emotional adventure and when you set goals. Entering high school,
they said that this would be one of our most exciting but nerve wracking days
of our lives. I pictured my high school life as exciting yet a lot of sleepless
nights and the moment wherein I would have the chance to change my bad habits
of studying or learning. The transition from grade 6 to grade 8 was a bit
shocking and intense for some of us. Grade 8 is where our high school journey
begins.
For as long as I can remember, I always have a set of high
goals for my life regarding my future and my education but then I didn’t know
how to achieve these high goals of mine until I entered grade 8. Grade 8 was an
intense year for me. I got placed in an SD-DD classroom and I didn’t know
anybody, I didn’t have my last school year friends there, I was nervous. Despite
my fear of being in an SD-DD room, this made me want to do better in terms of
my grades, education and my capabilities to work, it inspired and motivated me
to do my best. I didn’t want to see myself lower than them so I stepped up my
game and became more confident and hard working. Fast forward to the middle of
the school year, I remember my adviser asking me questions like “How do you
think you did this term?” “What happened to you this term?” I was frightened
because I got the idea that I didn’t do well this term but when she said
“congratulations” I was confused and that’s when I knew that I was almost
academic awardee and I cried for a good set of 5 minutes and some of my
classmates were like “why are you crying?!”, they didn’t know that I was crying
because of joy and not sadness. This result challenged me and motivated me even
more to work hard and to strive higher. And that I could achieve my goals if I
worked hard enough even if that means that I would barely sleep, barely eat
during recess and lunch and not enough time to spend with my family and
friends. This made me appreciate my self-worth more and that anyone could
achieve their goals if they believe in themselves and would put enough effort
in their work.
That whole experience of one year in high school made me
realize that if you want to be better educated and to get high grades you would
have to work hard and exert effort. Challenge yourself to work hard every day
and you wouldn’t be disappointed. Hard work in anything pays off, you become a
better person and student. You’re working hard not because you “have” to but
because you “want” to for your future. Do it because you want opportunities for
yourself and do it because you would know that there aren’t any shortcuts in
life. It would feel great knowing that your hard work paid off and you gained a
lot of things such as lessons, values and etc. throughout the journey.
