Nothing Else Matters When You're On Top Of The World

Take your leap of faith now before you regret it later. Two years ago my family decided to take a trip to the United States as my grade school graduation present. We spent almost most two weeks going around California and spending the later days in Las Vegas. I was very very excited because it was my first time to travel to America. So in April 2013, we drove to the airport and hopped on a plane to Korea then took a 13-hour flight to California.

For 4 days we stayed in Anaheim wherein Disneyland and California Adventure were located. Visiting theme parks was my top priority for this trip. I've already been to Hong Kong Disneyland twice and being an only child with my parents to accompany all around these theme parks, they were pretty hesitant to go because they were really into rides and thought that I was too old to go to Disneyland again. In the end, I convinced them to spend 2 days across those theme parks. My parents and I are not into rollercoasters or very high-speed rides with big drops but as we were walking around Fantasyland one ride caught my eye. It was called Matterhorn Bobsleds. It’s a ride modeled after the Matterhorn Mountain in the Swiss Alps. The ride takes you inside an 80 foot mountain then takes a big drop on the way out. I was really hesitant to take the ride because of the drop and my parents didn’t want it come along but after seeing how happy and thrilled people were coming out I decided to run into the single rider line and hop into the mountain. The climb up was really nerve racking  but when you get to the top you get to see the view of Fantasyland. It amazes you for a while then it suddenly drops you with a bit of a splash in the end. I was screaming the whole way down but when I got out I was so pumped and happy that I decided to take the plunge. This ended up being the highlight of my Disneyland adventure which made me more confident to ride more thrilling rides.

The day after, when my dad opened the television and turned to the news, they just announced that they temporarily closed Matterhorn due to safety reasons. At first I was  scared and shocked, and I thought to myself  “What if something went wrong while I was in there?” but then I realized I was really lucky to get out of there alive. The ride was opened again a week after with safety clearance from park officials. If we decide to go to Disneyland a day later I wouldn’t get to ride the Matterhorn and realized that sometimes it’s better to take every opportunity you have now then look back later and either regret or be thankful that you took that chance.
